What Causes Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks develop when your skin stretches faster than your body can produce collagen, resulting in tiny tears. As these tears heal, the scars that form are what we know as stretch marks. They commonly appear on the abdomen, breasts, buttocks, hips, and thighs, and can be red, blue, purple, pink, or black in color.

The most common causes include pregnancy, weight gain, and certain medications such as corticosteroid creams and long-term steroid use.

To begin treatment, a numbing cream is applied to the target area for comfort. A laser is then moved over the skin, encouraging fresh skin cells to grow and replace the stretch marks.
