How Ultherapy Works

Ultherapy sends high-frequency ultrasound waves to stimulate cells deep beneath the skin's surface layers, promoting collagen production and tightening the underlying muscles. Unlike treatments that use radio frequency, lasers, or surgical incisions, Ultherapy uses ultrasonic energy to bypass the skin's surface and heat deep tissue layers for optimal collagen production.

Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the FDA for lifting skin on the chin, brow, and neck. It is also the only FDA-cleared non-invasive treatment for improving wrinkles and fine lines of the decolletage.

What to Expect During Treatment

During your procedure, a lubricating gel is applied to the skin before the ultrasound wand is passed over the targeted areas. The entire procedure takes 20 to 40 minutes and is virtually pain-free, with most patients reporting only minimal, short-lasting discomfort. If you have a low pain threshold, over-the-counter pain medication can be taken prior to treatment.

Because Ultherapy is completely non-invasive, there is virtually no downtime and you can resume your normal activities immediately.

Results and Duration

Many patients see initial skin tightening results after their first treatment, but the majority of lifting effects develop gradually over 2 to 3 months as new collagen builds. Some patients continue to see improvement for up to 6 months following treatment.

The new collagen stimulated by Ultherapy usually lasts about 12 months, so most patients opt for annual touch-ups to maintain their results. Many patients are satisfied with a single treatment, though additional sessions can address advanced skin laxity.
